RB26… ITBs?

I saw this on a local forum, and quite honestly, was a little flabbergasted. Who in the right mind would take a RB26DETT, an engine that pulls an ever rising premium hovering at around $4000, and take OFF the turbos?

Someone with a lot of access to cheap JDM parts would, somebody not in America. This Airman, of whose name seems to not be able to be found, is a local New Mexican stationed in Okinawa. Here is a little taste of his cheap drift project.

Base car is a 97 Silvia s14. Pretty plain on the exterior to be honest. It doesn’t get much better on the outside, and with all the potential, that is a huge let down. But the engine makes up for it.

Short little mod list of the engine:

Engine/Drivetrain
R33 Engine cross member
RB25DE block (stock internals)
RB26DETT cylinder head (shaved .4mm iirc)
RB26 ITBs
100mm trumpets
Delrin engine mounts (made by Josh) dropped engine 30mm
Greddy radiator w/ flex-a-lite fans
RB20 transmission
R33 auto trans cross member
S14 turbo driveshaft
Megasquirt ECU
Exhaust
Coby D12 header (modified)
OBX RB26DETT exhaust manifold flanges
RSR 2.5″ exhaust

So its not a true RB26, but it could have been, easily. Still, this airman ditched the normal route and added these babies:

Individual Throttle Bodies, or ITB’s. I think its just plain cool to be honest.

It certainly is very different.

More will come on this s14, apparently it is named “Krome.” Videos will be up shortly of the naturally aspirated drifting fun.

I don’t care what kind of racing you’re into, but this is too cool for school. Maybe its just me, but these were the supercars I grew up with, so they strike fond memories of staying up late and watching Speed Channel reruns of these races. Enjoy! (I know, the song sucks, but just focus on the sound of the brilliant McLaren F1.)

I noticed that Cory recently posted some pictures of the S14 that he’s working on, so I thought I might as well throw up some info on the pile of junk I’m working on.

Just your average ’87 Mazda RX7. It is a Naturally Aspirated body with a full Turbo II Swap (13bt, TII differential, etc). It isn’t much to look at yet, but its a project. It sure provides my daily drives with some fun doriftos…
